~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What is Chemical Injury? What is Chemical Sensitivity? What is MCS - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity?
In multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) a
person develops markedly negative reactions to everyday chemical
exposures. These include exposures to pesticides in buildings, in
gardens, on our food, and on pets; chemical cleaners; petrochemical
heating systems; paints; perfumes; industrial emissions; and a myriad
of others. We have been conditioned to think of these exposures as
being "normal" and inconsequential, but for a growing portion of the
population they are not. The condition of MCS develops in two stages induction and triggering.
In induction some contact with chemicals causes the person to sensitize
to at least one class of chemicals. This contact can be one large chemical exposure such as a chemical spill or a
pesticide application, or it can be a low-level, ongoing exposure such as one might experience in a
workplace with poor ventilation combined with copy fumes, perfume, and
chemical cleaners. After induction the person develops sensitivity to
the chemical that was involved in the exposure and to other related
chemicals. Thereafter the person will respond with symptoms when
exposed to any of this class of chemicals. This is called "triggering." The sensitivities developed
are usually more or less permanent, although the kind and intensity of
reactions may vary. In what is called the "spreading phenomenon" the
sensitivities tend to spread over time to other related chemicals and also to other classes of chemicals.... MCS Research http://www.mcsresearch.net/ Research
Sensitivity in Independent Living ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What Can We Do? It is imperative that we all, as vitally important inhabitants of our world, do whatever we can to bring about our own education & awareness programs. We
need to promote chemical free living as much as possible. Support,
encourage and promote organic food production. Choose and promote
chemical free means of pest and weed control. We all need to care about human health and environmental health, our own health, the health of our neighbours, workmates, family and friends; our precious children and all our fellow human beings and all forms of life and our global environment. Act now and reduce this out of control heavy reliance on so many chemicals in our lives before it is way too late and choose and use chemical-free for everything whenever and wherever possible
need centers and villages all over this planet to diagnose, treat,
educate and do ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Multiple Chemical Sensitivities Under Siege In 1990, the Chemical Manufacturers Association (now the American Chemistry Council) vowed to work to prevent the recognition of MCS out of concern for potential lost profits and increased liability if MCS were to become widely acknowledged (2). It specifically committed to work through physicians and medical associations to accomplish this, stating that it was critical to keep physicians from legitimizing MCS. Unfortunately, this plan has been relatively successful. The industry has enlisted the aid of vocal anti-MCS physicians who promote the myths that people with MCS are “hypochondriacs,” “hysterical,” “neurotic,” suffer from some other psychiatric disorder, belong to a “cult,” or just complain too much. Most of these physicians work for industry as high-paid expert witnesses although their financial ties are usually not disclosed in their journal articles, interviews, or speaking engagements. Therefore, many people, including those in the health care profession, are often led to believe that these physicians’ opinions reflect an honest appraisal of MCS rather than the chemical industry’s agenda. At least one industry expert witness has authored two anti-MCS position papers for prominent medical associations. It is easy to see why these papers are biased against MCS and how by helping to combat MCS in the courts, these position statements are quite lucrative for industry and expert witnesses. More here:
