Donatella's Story - MCS Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Stories

I was born in 1957, have always remained in Italy, most of the time in the town in Ferrara. My parents have moved near the petrochemical pole ( a big American property industry, it was founded in 1950- vinyl chloride, ammonia, acetone... ). My town is very polluted due to these industries, air and water pollution and the ground is very polluted. The town now (one for toxic substances) has 3 incinerators, two plants to produce electric energy. Here there is the highest tumour rate to the lungs in the country.

I began to have health problems living in that area (at 6 years of age), difficulty breathing, tachycardia, convulsions, stomach and intestinal pain, loss of body weight. Doctors were not able to cure me, so I was sent me to live in the hills for a few years. My health problems disappeared and I felt well.

When I got back I was 14 years old and unfortunately I had developed a hereditary illness to the eyes: chronic simple glaucoma.

I have had therapy for many years and surgical operations. Side effects of prescribed medications were making me sick and I developed allergic reactions to the prescribed medications.

In 1992 I had a basic general petroleum anaesthesia: Halotane, with gas and subsequently developed sensitivity to multiple chemicals but was not formally diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity until 1996 as my country also does not formally recognise Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

I cannot have any social life nor can I go to work, or anywhere else due to all the toxic chemicals which are used everywhere in our societies including chemically perfumed products. I am confined to my house. I have serious damage to many organs including sight, hearing, sense of smell, taste and touch stomach, intestine (I can only tolerate 4 foods at this time), liver (necrosis of the liver), kidney, immune system (with many auto-immunity , respiratory system, my bones, muscular system and arterial, circulatory system.

No one has compensated me for the damages to my health and for the loss of my employment or rehabilitation therapist.

My life is lost for ever.

My family arranges for me and for my necessities, thankfully, they are considerate of all my needs because if I was alone today, I would be not survive. I can only dedicate the rest of my life to fight in my country and also at international level for the recognition and the care of the multi-millions of people in our world suffering Multiple Chemical Sensitivity/chemically induced illnesses, diseases & injury, we need our Governments to formally recognise MCS so that we can receive the appropriate treatments, care, help, support, and safe access to all health care facilities, education facilities and other facilities and all other rights.

Please give formal recognition to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

Donatella's Story: Italian version

Sono stato sopportato in 1957, sempre sono rimasto in Italia, la maggior parte del tempo nella città a Ferrara. I miei genitori si sono mossi vicino al palo petrochimico (un'industria di proprietà americana grande, è stato fondato in 1950 - cloruro di etile, ammoniaca, l'acetone…). La mia città è molto inquinante dovuto queste industrie, aria e l'inquinamento dell'acqua e la terra molto è inquinato. La città ora (una per le sostanze tossiche) ha 3 inceneratori, due piante per produrre l'energia elettrica. Qui ci è l'più alto tasso del tumore ai polmoni nel paese.

Ho cominciato ad avere problemi di salute che vivo in quella zona (a 6 anni), nella difficoltà che respirano, nella tachicardia, nelle convulsioni, nello stomaco e nel dolore intestinale, perdita del peso corporeo. I medici non potevano curarlo, in modo da mi sono stato trasmesso da vivere nelle colline per alcuni anni. I miei problemi di salute sono sparito ed ho ritenuto bene.

Quando lo ho ottenuto indietro avere 14 anni e purtroppo avevo sviluppato una malattia ereditaria agli occhi: glaucoma semplice cronico.

Ho avuto terapia per molti anni e funzionamenti chirurgici. Gli effetti secondari dei farmaci prescritti stavano rendendomi il malato ed ho sviluppato le reazioni allergiche ai farmaci prescritti.

In 1992 ho avuto un'anestesia generale di base del petrolio: Non diagnosticare formalmente Halotane, con gas e la sensibilità successivamente sviluppata ai prodotti chimici multipli ma con la sensibilità chimica multipla fino a 1996 poichè il mio paese inoltre non riconosce formalmente la sensibilità chimica multipla.

Non posso avere alcuna vita sociale né posso io andare funzionare, o in qualsiasi altro luogo dovuto tutti i prodotti chimici tossici che sono usati dappertutto nelle nostre società compreso i prodotti chimicamente profumati. Sono limitato alla mia casa. Ho danneggiamento serio di molti organi compreso vista, udienza, l'odorato lo stomaco, di gusto e di tocco, intestino (posso tollerare soltanto 4 alimenti attualmente), fegato (necrosi del fegato), rene, sistema immune (con i molti autoimmunità, apparato respiratorio, le mie ossa, sistema muscolare e sistema arterioso e circolatorio.

Nessuno lo ha compensato i danneggiamenti della mia salute e la perdita del mio therapist di riabilitazione o di occupazione.

La mia vita è persa per mai.

La mia famiglia assicura me e per le mie necessità, thankfully, sono considerate di tutti i miei bisogni perché se fossi oggi solo, dovrei non sopravvivere. Posso dedicare soltanto il resto della mia vita alla lotta nel mio paese ed anche al livello internazionale per il riconoscimento e la cura di multi-milioni di gente in nostro mondo che soffre la sensibilità chimica multipla/malattie, malattie & ferita chimicamente indotte, abbiamo bisogno dei nostri governi di riconoscere formalmente il MCS in moda da poterli ricevere noi i trattamenti adatti, ci preoccupiamo, aiutiamo, sosteniamo ed accesso sicuro a tutte le facilità di sanità, facilità di formazione ed altre facilità e tutti i altri diritti.

Dia prego il riconoscimento convenzionale alla sensibilità chimica multipla.
